ISSS 2020: Important Update

ISSS 2020 Cancelled

In preparing for our annual International Society for the Study of Self-Injury conference in Vienna we have been monitoring the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19. We are aware that many universities, and countries, have imposed indefinite travel bans in an effort to control the spread of the virus, and that this makes planning international travel difficult. In light of the uncertainty regarding international travel, we have decided to cancel this year’s event, and all pre-conference activities. This decision is further supported by the World Health Organization’s advice to take action to reduce transmission of the virus.

We received a large number of abstracts for the conference this year and wish to recognise and disseminate the quality work that is being conducted in the NSSI field. To this end, all abstracts will undergo peer review, and we will publish an electronic abstract book on the ISSS website. Paid members will also be able to access an online poster display and interactive online sessions to coincide with the ISSS conference dates (26-27th June). We will keep you informed as plans for these activities develop.

We know this will be disappointing for many of you, as we were looking forward to an active and exciting conference this year. However our priorities must be the health and safety of all members, and adherence to local and international travel advice. We will be directly in contact will all those who have already registered for the conference to discuss reimbursement of fees. Thank you for your ongoing support of ISSS, and we hope to see you at our conference in June 2021, which we again hope to host in Vienna.

Sincerely,

Penelope Hasking                            Paul Plener

Call for Abstracts

The Executive Board of the International Society for the Study of Self-Injury (ISSS) invites abstract submissions for oral (paper) and poster presentations at this year’s annual conference, to be held June 26-27, 2020 in Vienna, Austria! We welcome submissions from members and non-members.

The abstract deadline has been extended to 11:59 PM UTC, March 7th, 2020.

All submissions require the inclusion of a title, abstract (maximum 250 words), and author list for the proposed presentation. During the submission process, you will be able to indicate whether the submission should be considered for presentation as a paper (talk/oral presentation), poster, or both. Further, oral presentations submitted as part of a symposium are welcome. There is an opportunity to specify a symposium title during the time of submission so that separate oral presentation submissions can be linked together.

You will also be able to submit your abstract for consideration for the ISSS Travel Award and the ISSS Student Award. Decisions on submissions will be made by late spring 2020.

Update Regarding Presentations and Posters (March 26 2019)

Notifications of decisions on submissions have been made! We hope to post the full agenda by the end of April 2019. Poster authors should plan to present posters no larger than 18″ x 19″ in size.

All presentations should adhere to the following guidelines, adopted by the ISSS Executive Board:

In keeping with the efforts of ISSS to include and be respectful of individuals with lived experience of self-injury, we ask that all presenters refrain from the use of potentially triggering or upsetting imagery (e.g., graphic images of NSI) in the context of presentations and posters at this year’s conference. Thank you for your support of this important initiative.
