In preparing for our annual International Society for the Study of Self-Injury conference in Vienna we have been monitoring the ongoing situation regarding COVID-19. We are aware that many universities, and countries, have imposed indefinite travel bans in an effort to control the spread of the virus, and that this makes planning international travel difficult. In light of the uncertainty regarding international travel, we have decided to cancel this year’s event, and all pre-conference activities. This decision is further supported by the World Health Organization’s advice to take action to reduce transmission of the virus.

We received a large number of abstracts for the conference this year and wish to recognise and disseminate the quality work that is being conducted in the NSSI field. To this end, all abstracts will undergo peer review, and we will publish an electronic abstract book on the ISSS website. Paid members will also be able to access an online poster display and interactive online sessions to coincide with the ISSS conference dates (26-27th June). We will keep you informed as plans for these activities develop.

We know this will be disappointing for many of you, as we were looking forward to an active and exciting conference this year. However our priorities must be the health and safety of all members, and adherence to local and international travel advice. We will be directly in contact with all those who have already registered for the conference to discuss reimbursement of fees. Thank you for your ongoing support of ISSS, and we hope to see you at our conference in June 2021, which we again hope to host in Vienna.

Sincerely,

Penelope Hasking, ISSS President & Paul Plener, ISSS Conference Chair
